Prepared Panama attendance

The useful work starts before the engineer boards.

01 — Send

Send the fault, equipment details and vessel schedule. Include the operational impact and what has already been checked.

02 — Prepare

TESS reviews the engineer requirement, manuals, software, programming cables, adapters, instruments, spares, OEM remote support and boarding constraints.

03 — Attend / Test / Report

Record the as-found condition, diagnose, perform approved repair where possible, test and document the result and next step.

Do not spend the vessel’s port window identifying information that could have been collected before boarding.

PLC, HMI, Alarm & Automation Troubleshooting

An apparent PLC or HMI failure can start in control power, a sensor, field wiring, remote I/O or the network. Diagnosis follows the signal and the controlled function before a replacement or software change is proposed.

Controller & I/O

PLC diagnostics, CPU and power faults, digital and analog I/O, remote I/O and machinery control logic.

HMI & project files

Display and runtime faults, PLC–HMI communication, authorized backup/recovery assessment and replacement or migration review.

Networks & communications

Modbus, PROFIBUS, PROFINET, Ethernet and serial links; CAN/CANopen where supported by the installed system.

Alarms & field signals

Trace 4–20 mA and digital signals through sensors, terminals and wiring. Compare the physical condition with the displayed alarm or value.

Program recovery, online access and modifications depend on the installed controller, available files, software version, protection settings and authorization.

Marine Electrical Fault Finding, Switchboards & Power Controls

Electrical diagnosis connects the power source, protection, wiring and load. TESS assesses the installed arrangement and agreed work scope before testing, repair or commissioning.

Electrical fault finding

Earth / ground faults, low insulation, wiring, terminals, relays, contactors and loss of control power.

Switchboards & distribution

Main and emergency switchboards, distribution panels, breaker controls, protection interfaces and metering.

DC & backup power

24 VDC, power supplies, battery chargers, UPS, battery/control interfaces and redundant supplies.

Motors & drives

Starters, contactors, overloads, soft starters, VFD command interfaces, drive replacement and commissioning.

Generator controls

Auto start/stop, synchronization, load sharing, PMS interfaces, breaker controls, alarms, AVR/governor interfaces and blackout recovery logic where relevant.

Navigation-light control

Supply, switching, monitoring and alarm interfaces assessed together with the installed navigation-light control arrangement.

Automation Inside the Machinery — Not Only the Vessel IAS

Many automation faults sit inside individual equipment packages. TESS diagnoses the controlled machine and its electrical/automation interfaces together.

Deck & access

Windlasses, mooring winches, cranes, davits, gangways, hydraulic power units and ramp/door controls.

Pumps & auxiliaries

Pumps, compressors, separators, ballast, bilge and cargo auxiliaries: commands, feedback, permissives and trips.

Onboard process systems

HVAC, refrigeration, sewage treatment, freshwater and reverse osmosis: follow the process condition through its sensors and controls.

Panama attendance, planned around the vessel

For calls in Panama and the Panama Canal area, including Balboa and Colón / Cristóbal, send the berth or anchorage, agent/access details and ETA / ETD. Attendance is coordinated around the location, scope and available port window.

Wider Caribbean and Central America mobilization is subject to scope and availability.

Before you request attendance

Can TESS attend an electrical or automation fault during a short Panama call?

Send the fault and ETA / ETD first. TESS reviews the required engineer, access, equipment, software, spares and port window before confirming attendance. A short call does not guarantee that repair can be completed.

What information should we send first?

Send the vessel / IMO where applicable, location, ETA / ETD, symptoms and operational impact. Include maker/model, PLC/HMI type, alarm screenshots, photos, drawings, manuals and available backup files or spares.

Can TESS recover a PLC program if the original project is missing?

Recovery must be assessed for the installed controller. Available files, software versions, protection settings and authorization determine what access or recovery is possible. A missing project cannot always be reconstructed from a controller.

Can TESS replace a failed HMI?

The assessment checks the exact model, compatible replacement, project/runtime files, software version and PLC communication. Hardware replacement alone may not restore operation if the required project or access is unavailable.

Does TESS work only with one automation brand?

No. TESS assesses the installed platform and the tools, documentation and manufacturer support available for the scope. Naming a platform does not imply manufacturer authorization or support for every model.

Can our OEM support the job remotely while TESS attends onboard?

Yes, this can be arranged for an agreed scope. Confirm permissions, software, diagnostic interfaces, connectivity and the remote specialist’s availability before attendance.

Do you also work on yachts?

TESS assesses electrical and automation work for yachts and large sailing yachts, including machinery controls, monitoring, distribution and planned retrofit. Confidentiality, access, documentation and the required testing are agreed for each job.
